Review:
Great machine, we have it installed in studio 1 here in Soho and it sounds fantastic. Simple to use and crash free software and a very clear matrix system with loads of options. The only gripe is that Apogee don't supply with a thunderbolt cable?! When you spend that kind of money you'd think they'd at least sort that! The sound is vastly above the likes of Motu, slightly more detailed than the Duet and comparable to current Pro Tools. Where as we use, Decca, Tonelux and API Pre Amps - these (the built in Ensemble Mic Pre Amps) aren't far off, so in that respect this machine is pretty cheap.

Review:
Having spent £5,500 upgrading my entire system (New 6-core Mac Pro with 2TB superfast Aura SSD and 32gig RAM), I shelled out for this baby because i not only wanted the best, but i wanted to future-proof my studio system.

I have to say, the latency on this is quite poor. it's less than 1ms if you're working in 96k, but if you're recording in Logic X at normal 44.1k - you will notice a lag. Quite a profound delay. it's quite shocking actually. Everytime you record a region, you have to nudge the region back into place on Logic,

Contacted Apogee in America who were quite rude and unhelpful. So ... quite disappointed.

Yes the converters are great. Yes the audio recording sounds great, but the lag, on a superfact SSd system really isn't unacceptable.

Imagine how slow it would be if you were recording onto a normal 7200 RPM HD.

I would say avoid this. Definitely.

i give this 2 Stars
