Maschine STUDIO USB MIDI Controller Black description:

The Native Instruments Maschine Studio, Black is the lead Maschine controller that provides a broad and intuitive user interface for next level beat production, not to mention the included vast sound library which will get all producers and performers up and running right off the bat with the included Maschine software.

The Maschine Studio now benefits from an even easier user interface comprised of dedicated buttons, a jog wheel for quick browsing, editing, level metering and arranging, as well as two high resolution colour displays which portray all patterns, scenes, plug-in icons, waveforms and new mixer with concise and clear information for better performance workflow.

The Maschine Studio provides a simple, fast and effective workflow, combining the flexibility of software and the human touch of hands on control with comprehensive controls. Everything is built road tough, yet sensitive to touch, ensuring an accurate performance which in turn guarantees better creativity. There are touch-sensitive multi-colour pads, edit buttons, level section, eight display knobs and a jog wheel. What’s also great is the fact that the Maschine Studio now has a built-in stand, making this an even more performance ready groove module.

With the Maschine Studio you’ll be able to create rhythms, harmonies and melodies, as well as having access to powerful sampling tools like slicing, time-stretching, sound shaping and editing. Users will benefit from mixing and metering on the hardware itself, as well as side-chaining, pre-listening bus, aux sends, unlimited groups and effect inserts.

The sound quality is superb with multi-mode drum synths for tuned acoustic and electronic sounds which can be edited with on-the-fly parameter automation. One can expect all the usual for a drum machine like velocity levels, swing, pad link, note repeat, step sequencer and vintage MPC 60 and SP 1200 sampling.

The Maschine Studio integrates perfectly with Komplete 11 giving users preset browsing, icon view and auto parameter mapping. Over and above this is the fact that Komplete 11 SELECT is included alongside the MASCHINE 2.0 software, 25 pro-grade effects and new drum synths, delivering over 22GB of sound programming.

Maschine Studio is a beautiful piece of hardware and once you get into working with it, it's hard to stop. There is a learning curve that can prove frustrating at times, but once you get over a particular hurdle you're one step closer to mastering the hardware and software.

If you produce any kind of music that relies on loops you'll be at home here, and it's possible to use it for more conventional song structures too, although you'll have to set aside some of your conventional way of working with DAWs to do so.

Above all, Maschine Studio combines professional quality music-making with fun - and that's a recipe I can't resist.

Great product.... I am loving learning my way around this product. Every time I turn it on I feel like I'm one step closer to unleashing it's true power.

The 2.0 software is a great improvement over the first version. It isn't a fully fledged DAW but what you do have is the tightest integration of software and hardware. I tried Ableton push and am a huge fan of the Live suite software but when it comes to getting to work and creating music in my opinion the workflow of maschine cannot be beat.
