Avid Pro Tools 10 Education is the latest instalment of the world’s leading digital audio workstation (DAW) and finally sees the end to the restrictions and limitations imposed on the old Pro Tools LE and HD software systems. This version is specifically for educational institutions and identification will be required when registering the product.
Pro tools 10 now presents an affordable and powerful music production system in its own right, out-of-the-box, and without any additional hardware or software needed. Bundled with Pro Tools 10 comes 8Gb of sample and loop content from Big Fish Audio, the Boom drum machine, DB-33 tonewheel organ, Mini Grand piano, Structure Free sample player, Vacuum monophonic tube synthesiser, and the Xpand! synth and sample workstation. In terms of plug-ins, Pro Tools is the market leader, and version 10 ships with 72 of the best plug-in effects and processors in the business covering everything you can think of (and a fair few you won’t have ever thought of!).
In Pro Tools 10 you get a lot more power, with the track count up to 96 simultaneous audio tracks, with 32 audio inputs, 512 midi tracks (double that of V9), and the maximum sample rate is equal to that of HD at 192KHz. The Automatic Delay Compensation also comes as a big bonus, automatically accounting for the delay caused by individual plug-in to ensure your mixes remain perfectly in time. ASIO driver support means you can get great results out of cheaper soundcards/audio interfaces which will also make Pro Tools 10 a far more affordable and viable option.
For colleges and universities, and the students that attend them, one of the biggest developments is the compatibility between Pro Tools 10 and Pro Tools | HDX which will allow students to work on HD projects outside of the studio, reducing studio time and costs and increasing productivity and learning. With the optional Complete Composer Toolkit, you can upgrade Pro Tools 10 to exactly the same specification as Pro Tools 10 | HD with all the same plug-ins and instruments and work on your projects anywhere.
