A.I.R. Hybrid description:

The Digidesign Hybrid high-definition synthesiser combines the warmth of legendary analogue synths from the ’70s with a full range of twenty-first century analogue and digital capabilities. The result is a virtual instrument with a comprehensive set of precisely adjustable parameters that can sound like the synth you remember or like something no one has ever heard before.

Hybrid was developed by Digidesign’s Advanced Instrument Research group - a new division dedicated to creating powerful virtual instruments purpose built for the Pro Tools environment.

Sample-Accurate Synth Engine - Hybrid uses a sample-accurate synth engine to provide high-definition sound plus the performance of a real analog system.

Hybrid comes equipped with 256 preset patches with a full range of analog and digital sounds for getting started quickly. It also offers a deep set of user-adjustable parameters for creating unique sounds, easily, from the straightforward interface. Support for two simultaneous parts lets customers layer, split, or spread sounds to produce deep, wide, and complex-sounding patches.

Each Hybrid part features two multifunctional oscillators with algorithms ranging from classic analog waveforms to digital wavetables. A third oscillator section includes saw, square, or triangle waves plus a noise generator and a sub oscillator for deep bass effects.

The revolutionary multimode filter includes an extensive collection of 23 modes. Customers can dial in the filter cut-off, velocity, and key tracking; use the resonance dial to change the tone from a nasal sound to a ringing tone; and blend the third oscillator and noise generator to produce distinctive electronic effects with filter FM.

Filter saturation adds serious edge. Unlike other synths, Hybrid creates distortion by overdriving the ?lter rather than distorting the signal before or after the filter. As a result, customers can produce punchy, low-end sound with plenty of sub-harmonics or screaming, crunchy leads. To modulate pitch, loudness, or cut-off, Hybrid includes three LFOs per part, each with eight modulation types. Four envelope editors enable users to easily sculpt the filter, amplitude, and any two other modulation envelopes.

Hybrid is built to be played. Step sequencers offer arpeggiation and phrase generation; a modulation matrix enables easy mapping of modulations from sources to destinations; and “morph” groups allow modification sounds on the fly, from the interface or a MIDI controller.

Hybrid offers two insert effect sends per part, each with more than 40 effect types. A separate master effect section includes reverb, delay, and chorus effects to enhance—or warp—any of Hybrid’s sounds at the patch level.

Built specifically for Pro Tools systems, Hybrid is tightly integrated with the new creative environment of Pro Tools 7 software and designed for optimal performance and rock-solid reliability.
