Sequel 3 from Steinberg is a massive step up from Sequel 2 with VST instrument and effect support, Halion Sonic SE and Groove Agent One from Cubase (Steinberg’s flagship software), a step-sequencer for programming drum loops, a performance mode for on the fly remixing, drag-and-drop beat matching for remixing your favourite tracks, and one very slick and professional looking interface.
Sequel is Steinberg’s entry-level music production software and is designed to be a gentle introduction to the likes of Cubase and Logic, etc. It requires little previous experience in music making and is very enjoyable to use. The program centres around the “media bay” which helps you build your new song by listing the thousands of instrument sounds and loops that are included by categories and sub-categories right down to music musical style. Whilst browsing the loops play back in time with your project and automatically in the correct key, whilst instrument sounds can be auditioned by playing your midi keyboard or using keys on your computer keyboard. This makes it really easy to find the perfect instrument and get ideas flowing quickly into your new song.
