The Dave Smith Instruments Tetra is a 4 voice genuine analogue synthesizer that’s stormed the electronic music scene with its warm and punchy sound. It can also be used as a 4 part monophonic synthesizer thus allowing the user to create four different sounds at one time. This, in tandem with the fact that frequency modulation between oscillators is possible and that the 3 envelopes are of a lightning fast speed, results in electronic drum sounds that rival the tones of the most classic and sought after (transistor) rhythm machines.
Used in conjunction with the Machine Drum, the DSI Tetra adds the pure analogue warmth to the Machine Drum’s digital sound. By using the Machine Drum to sequence the Tetra, the user can take advantage of all the different parameter lock options to modulate multiple parameters of the Tetra per step of the sequence! And since the Tetra and Machine Drum both have four individual outputs, multitracking and processing each of the drum tones is possible. Alternatively, the user can also process the Tetra with the Machine Drum’s various FX processors like bit crushing, filtering, tempo-locked delays, and gated reverbs, since the MD has two inputs.
