Good sounding unit that helps get a good recorded guitar sound. From clean through to heavily distorted the sounds remain convincing and effective. Gain, amp style and volume do their job well, treble and bass are well-ranged, and mic placement offers additional flavouring to trim. the tone. Balance output gives a pro-finish option.
There are none of the 'bells and whistles' that many other preamp effects units offer, such as noise gates, compressors, reverb, delay, etc. However, those units are often designed for placing in front of an amp, and for recording you could ague that at least some of those 'toys' are often best left to post-processing. Nevertheless, you don't have such options available, should you want them. For the price, you can't grumble. Its a highly effective means of getting the basic sound right, which is the most important thing.
If I had to find anything to criticise, I'd say the slide switches feel a little flimsy, and its hard to see which way the knobs are pointing. Again, though, these are pretty minor gripes and for the price I'm happy, so at least four stars, but perhaps not quite 5.
