Sometimes the only way to make your tone perfect is to destroy it utterly. Covering your signal in swathes of rich harmonics will give you a searing edge of a tone that literally fuzzes up in the mix.
Anything from hard rock to funk and psychedelic jam-outs have made the most of fuzz guitar - Hendrix, anyone? - so you certainly have a heritage behind you. Some people even plump for a couple of fuzzes in serial so they can really mess with their signal to a beastly extent, and as long as it's applied well in the mix, it's arguably more than worth it. Stomp on a new fuzz pedal and utterly rock out.
