JB Vintage 1975 SFGR Bass Guitar, Surf Green description:

The J&D JB Vintage 1975 SFGR is a four-string bass guitar with a classic look reminiscent of a 1970s 'JB' style model.

The J&D JB Vintage 1975 SFGR has an alder body in a very familiar offset double-cutaway body shape. The bolt-on maple neck is cut with a very comfortable rounded profile, and is topped by a bound maple fingerboard. The block inlays on the frets mimic the bass guitar styles of the 1970s.

In the electronics department, the JB Vintage 1975 has two 'J'-style pickups, one in the bridge position, the other in the middle position. Each pickup has its own Volume control, while they both share a Tone control.

The bass has a Surf Green finish, and the body is fitted with a three-ply black pickguard. The fingerboard has a gloss finish, while the hardware is made of chrome.

The main features of the J&D JB Vintage 1975 SFGR, Surf Green include:

  • 1970s 'JB'-style bass guitar
  • Alder body
  • Bold-on maple neck
  • Bound maple fingerboard with gloss finish
  • 2 x 'J'-style pickups
  • 2 x Volume controls, 1 x Tone control
  • Chrome hardware
  • Surf Green finish with a 3-ply black pickguard

Review:
Great basic structure to the bass. Sounds great. But expect to do some tidying and tweaking if you want a completely sorted bass.
Other hardware bits and pieces are very cheap. But the body, neck, pickups and finish are really great. Well worth the money.

Review:
At first i bought this bass purely for the colour and the price. Not knowing anything about the bass or the makers, i did not know what to expect. However, when i recieved the bass and plugged it in, i was blown away by the quality! I've played Fender Americans of similar qualities! Action comes a little high but you get the tools to fix that with the axe. Otherwise amazing bass, and i always get complimented on it, especially the colour.

Review:
Outstanding value for money! At the moment, this bass is my main instrument - my Fender Geddy Lee jazz and my Status stay in their cases.

Playable straight out of the box, but much better with a ten minute set-up.

Great tone, great neck and a real quality feel - all for just over a hundred quid.

I wish budget basses were this good when I was learning, thirty years ago!

The only (slight) weak link is the pickups. Although very high output and with a good core tone, they are a bit microphonic if you play with a heavy hand. If you are a more subtle player than me, this may not be an issue.Still, a very minor quibble at this price-point.

Highly recommended.

Fantastic value for money - they need a little work but it's well worth it and the necks are easily as good as squier etc.

Review:
A few months ago I purchased & J&D vintage Precision Bass, this was playable straight out of the box & was a bargain price for the overall quality. I decide to order this J&D vintage Jazz bass & was expecting the same level of quality. When it arrived I gave it my once over inspection. Finish was excellent, pickups & bridge pretty good but the neck was bowed up so the strings buzzed & no notes could be heard, it required at least a week of careful truss rod adjustment. the fret ends were very sharp whereas the P bass wes perfect. Don't get me wrong, this is still a proper bass and great to play with the classic J bass sound but I expected a better set up neck & fret treatment. It now plays almost perfectly after a proper set up & adjustment. Just pointing out that the quality of the instruments is more variable than expected. Do not be put off by this, still worth every penny!

Review:
This is simply fantastic value for the money-in fact,I don't know how they make a maple neck and alder body instrument for that price. If I'm honest,I bought this for the surf green body alone as a 'custom project,as the whole bass cost approximately half what I was quoted for a respray of my existing jazz bass! This is a playable instrument out of the box-the only criticisms I have are that on the bass I received the paint job around the neck heel isn't 100 percent spot on,and the major issue (if there can truly be one at this price) is that the frets are quite sharp at the edges of the board-not a deal breaker, but something that IMO should be addressed at the factory. If you are willing to spend an hour tweaking to your taste, then this bass is as at least good as many of those in the £350 bracket.A total bargain.

Review:
I was not really expecting much from this bass at the price but it seems really well made and the pups sound quite nice and smooth the hardware may not take much abuse but it holds tune and does its job I dont really have anything negative to say about this bass the set up was not to bad out of the box the only thing and I am being picky is there were a couple of sharp fret ends but no big deal I have had that on many Fenders in the past, the bass is not too heavy and plays well )

Review:
I saw one on E bay s/h and as I already have a very nice J&D 5 string through neck I checked the new price and I could not resist buying a surf green one .The other reviews were all so positive and I agree, at the price the quality is amazing. I have several Fender and Squire jazz basses and this stands up very well against them .The setup was pretty good out of the box and only needed minor adjustment, the frets are a little sharp which is a common easily fixed problem and the nut is not perfect, but it is better than most .The most important factor for me is it feels right when I play it and at the price I can upgrade the pups, if I want to, and still have a very cheap quality bass. Every bass player should have one!
