B3 Bass Guitar Effects & Amplifier Simulator Pedal description:

The Zoom B3 Bass Effects & Amp Simulator is an all-in-one solution for performing and recording.

The Zoom B3 features 99 world-famous stomp box models, ranging from dynamics and EQs to overdrives, modulations and delays.

The B3 also offers 12 amp models, including some of the world's most popular bass guitar amps, such as the Ampeg SVT, Fender Bassman 100, Hartke HA3500 and Marshall Super Bass. Each one has controls for Bass, Middle and Treble, and can be mixed and matched with any of the effects.

The Zoom B3 has a 1/4-inch jack input for active and passive pickups and stereo outputs for using the B3 as an effects pedal in a pedal chain. There is a balanced XLR output for using the B3 as an amp simulator to plug directly into a mixing desk, with a pre and post effects switch, allowing the effected sound to go to the main outputs while sending the original analog bass guitar signal directly to the XLR output.

There's also USB connectivity, for using the B3 as a recording interface with the included Steinberg Sequel LE recording software, or any other digital audio workstation. The 40 built-in drum rhythms and tap tempo feature enables easy jamming, and the included looper function allows endless fun and experimentation.

Add to the already impressive feature list the built-in tuner and free Edit&Share software for creating, editing and saving your favourite presets and sharing them with others.

The main features of the Zoom B3 Bass Effects & Amp Simulator include:

Sounds great, very flexible, like having three separates in a tidy box. Lots of features. Bargain. Just really good (I play live regularly and it is almost perfect. Negs Looper is a faff, so if you want one, get the real thing. Haven't found it easy to mute in tuner mode - Read the Instructions I suppose!

Pros: +
Amazing choice of effects, really well thought out interface, straight forward to use and get some great sounds from.

Cons: -
Power socket is slightly recessed, meaning that you can't use right-angled power connectors.

Easily the best multi effects unit I've ever tried, it's individual effects are also better than the mainstream stomp boxes I've tried and subsequently disowned. As a package - the value, versatility, quality and simplicity of the Zoom B3 make it pretty much indispensible. This is a very high quality product at an absolute barging price!

Given that I got the email asking me to review it before it had even arrived, I haven't had a lot of time with it, but it looks very promising. Lots of decent effects, amp simulations etc., which can be combined in any selection of up to three at a time. It's also excellent value, costing less than my MXR chorus pedal which, albeit excellent, only does one thing! The settings look pretty simple to deal with and I found my way round most of it without much help from the instruction manual - although that's pretty good too.

The tuner facility is handy and will save me a pedal (as it were), and I'm looking forward to learning how to use the looper - something I've never done before. And my M-Audio expression pedal works with it for volume, wah, etc., so I dont need to splash out the small extra on a Zoom pedal for the purpose.

I've yet to use it 'in anger', so only time will tell about the real quality of the sounds, but so far the signs are good.

Unbelievable for the money. Usable preprogrammed fx right out of the box but also very easy to manipulate and create your own. Some annoying quirks (no patch preselect or method of removing elements of a patch on the fly) hence a star docked. It also doesn't have an expression pedal, I use one for volume so you have to buy this separately.

Doesn't muddy and alter the signal path like the Boss ME50-B seems to.

If you can demo it first then even better but even buying blind you won't be disappointed.

This pedal is of a quality that is beyond expectations for the price. Most of the effects in the pedal are of a very high quality and perform very similarly to their analogue pedal counterparts.

Using the pedal is simple and straightforward. Build quality appears to be excellent.

The only slight issue I have experienced with the pedal is that the octaver effect doesn't perform very well on lower bass strings - most notably on the low E (specifically E up to A or even B). Also, the Wah effect seems to be prone to a little bit of a volume level peak when using the expression pedal (specifically when blending from pedal-down to pedal-up) - although I've not had time to to see if there are any settings that could improve this.

Excellent unit at the best price. Well done dv 247. The Zoom B3 is very easy to use and with a little effort it's possible to produce patches for use in a wide array of situations.

Having used many stomp boxes in the past and tried a few multi effects units I can only say that this is simply the best. It is a solid unit, well built, and the stomp switches are nice and rugged. It runs on 4 x AA batteries (not supplied), 9v power supply (provided) or USB power (lead not supplied). It has stereo/mono TRS out as well as XLR line out too which is useful for amp and PA set ups. I like the build it effects banks & patches but you can make and store your own combos too. The built in tuner and percussion are also very handy. It also comes with a free license for Cubase LE for PC or Mac and its own software. The only con is the omission of the USB lead in the box. Overall great value for money !

Very good product, disappointed in the lack of unusual usb cable to connect to computer though, couldn't find one anywhere so still not used with cubase, which was a major factor in purchasing this.
