MPD16 USB/MIDI Pad Dedicated Pad Controller description:

The Akai MPD16 USB is a dedicated USB/MIDI pad controller that can be used with any sampler/sound module and/or sequencer to record and play drum and percussion patterns with the expression and feel that only pads can offer.

Equipped with 16 totally assignable MPC pads switchable across two banks (thereby giving you effectively 32 pads) plus a performance slider for hi-hat and other sample switching, the Akai MPD16 USB is the definitive laptop rhythm controller. The Akai MPD16 USB has MIDI out so that it can be used with any sampler or sound module. However, the Akai MPD16 USB is also equipped with USB. Not only can it derive its power supply from that interface when used with Akai Professional's USB equipped Z4 or Z8, it can also communicate with a computer for controlling software applications. Each pad can be set to output MIDI notes of your choosing with a variable velocity range and these can all be set conveniently via your Mac or PC.

The main features of the Akai MPD16 USB include:

  • 16 original MPC pads (velocity and pressure sensitive)
  • 2 switchable banks
  • MPCs 16-Levels and Full Level features
  • Slider sending continuous controller data
  • MIDI and/or USB operation
  • Powered via USB cable (or optional AC adaptor)
  • Free set-up utility software for Windows, Mac OS 9 and OS X
