The Adam S5A MK2 monitor transports the fundamental virtues of the A.R.T.technology and the HexaCone woofers to much higher SPL regions. As the diaphragm areas involved are considerably enlarged an outstandingly impressive combination of natural sound and high dynamics is achieved. Two 11inch HexaCone woofers, a 5 inch HexaCone midrange unit, an A.R.T. midrange and tweeter are capable of filling large control rooms (up to 30m sq.) with breathtaking realism and stunning dynamic peaks. A front panel carries variable controls for input sensitivity, level controls for tweeter and midrange amplifiers as well as ±6dB shelving filters on both ends of the frequency spectrum. The tweeter is the same in all Adam monitors, starting with the P11-A near field monitor and ending with the S7-A Main Monitors. You get the same superior resolution above 2 kHz from these monitors that sets all Adam loud speakers apart from their competitors and by applying moderate equalization to the low end nearly an additional octave in bass response is achieved compared with a passive system. The S-5A woofer, midrange and tweeter are each powered by separate 150W RMS amplifiers, the subwoofer by 500W, actively crossed over at 85/800/3.100Hz. The system's frequency-response has highs extending all the way to 35 kHz and lows down to 26 Hz (±3 dB). Tweeter gain can be adjusted 4 dB up or down with a pot on the panel, mid level by 2 dB. Also found on the panel of the S5-A are contour controls (+/- 6 dB) for high- and low-shelf filters at 6 kHz and 160 Hz, respectively. The balanced analog input is on a balanced XLR connector.
