The Z Systems Q2 is one of the world’s best sounding digital equalizers. Combine this with the reliability and repeatability of digital, an intuitive and simple user interface, and a low price and you’ve got a world-class equalizer that’s equally at home in a project studio or in the hallowed halls of top-level mastering. The z-Q2 is the end-result of many years’ worth of research and development and collaboration with top recording and mastering engineers. At the core of the product lies a very sophisticated set of proprietary digital signal processing algorithms which result in digital filters with a minimum of roundoff noise. This yields a smooth sound, characteristic of the finest analog equalizers but with the precision and convenience of digital. The z-Q2 is implemented entirely in floating-point and currently supports up to 96 kHz at 24bits, with an upgrade to 192 kHz soon on the way. The unit features four bell filters and two shelving filters per channel, with linked-stereo and dual-mono operation. The z-Q2 also offers several options for wordlength reduction to 16 or 20 bits, including the critically acclaimed POW-r algorithm. The unit also features M/S encoding and M/S decoding so it is possible to do separate processing on the M and S channels. The unit also supports MIDI program change commands and can use MIDI SysEx in order to store and recall banks of presets.
