DMCL Dual Mic / Line Amplifier with Digital Option description:

The Amek DMCL With Digital Option. Very high performance Rupert Neve designed dual mic/line amplifiers followed by high/low pass variable frequency filters, dual high-resolution compressor-limiters and a digital output.

The Amek DMCL is designed for engineers and producers who need a powerful and compact outboard unit. It combines all the favourable sonic qualities and features that are desirable on the very best analogue mixing consoles with the addition of multi-format digital outputs. The Pure path Dual Mic-amp, Compressor-Limiter (DMCL) comprises two identical closely matched microphone and line amplifiers followed by high/low pass variable frequency filters, dual high-resolution compressor-limiters and an optional digital output. Output formats are AES/EBU, S/PDIF and optical. The microphone input circuit is Mr. Rupert Neve's exclusive "Transformer Like Amplifier" design as used in his previous designs for the 9098i super analogue console and System 9098 range of outboard equipment. The input gain ranges from 0dB (unity) to +66dB in 6 dB steps. Mic. trim is continuously variable +/-12dB. The microphone input impedance is 5k Ohms, providing an ideal input for a 150 or 200 Ohm microphone. As the microphone amplifier can handle up to +26dBu at unity gain, it can also be used as an additional high quality line input. The 10k Ohm floating transformer line input provides uncompromising isolation and protection against ground currents and unwanted signals. The instrument input is an alternative to the microphone amplifier. Input impedance is 2.2M Ohms. The mic. rotary gain and mic. trim controls provide gain control for this input. Hence the gain range is the same as for the microphone input. Variable high and low pass frequency filters may be switched in and out of the audio chain. The high pass filter has a switchable slope of 18 or 24 dB/octave that is useful for removing unwanted interfering signals or as help for shaping the signal prior to recording. The low pass filter has a switchable slope of 12 or 18 dB/octave that may be used for signal shaping to adjust harmonic content. A side chain switch is included to switch the filters into the side chain path. Compression may be either pre or post filters. The switch may be used to moderate compression characteristics. Identical gain reduction can take place across both A and B DMCL channels by switching on the A-B link. Furthermore, the link button located on compressor B enables multiple DMCL's to be connected in a daisy chain format. This mode of operation is useful when working on a surround sound stem. An insert send/return point allows the insertion of other devices into the audio path. The return point doubles as the key input. For the first time ever on a Mr. Rupert Neve designed outboard module an optional interface to the digital domain has been included. The digital output provides simultaneous AES/EBU, S/PDIF and optical outputs at selectable sampling frequencies of 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz. With external sync. sources selectable from either Word Clock or Pro Tools Superclock, the DMCL makes the perfect front end partner to any digital console or digital audio workstation.

The main features of the Amek DMCL include:

  • Very high performance Rupert Neve designed dual mic pre based on 9098 Console
