The Clavia Nord Piano 88 is a dedicated, full scale stage piano with features aimed at meeting every need of today’s performing musician.
The Piano 88 presents 19 factory-loaded piano and harpsichord sounds, with a further 120 presets boasting all of the possible combinations of pianos and effects on offer. There are also more than enough memory locations to save your favourite settings for quick access, or dial them in on the go on the Piano’s user-friendly interface.
Plugging the Nord into a computer, using its on board USB connectivity, opens up great possibilities, from using the Nord 88 as a controller keyboard to completely replacing the Piano’s sounds using the Nord Piano Library. The free Nord Sound Manager is ideal for organising your sounds and runs on Mac OSX and on Windows systems from Windows XP onwards.
The effects on the Clavia Nord Piano 88 are as detailed as its piano sounds, with the option of using two effects at once. Whether you want to freshen up your sound with a phaser, flanger, or a subtle chorus, you can mix either with panning, tremolo or auto-wah to create some unique tones. There’s also an onboard three band EQ, which helps to make each sound truly customisable.
There are even speaker models, which faithfully recreate the overdrives and sensitivities of different tube amplifiers and cabinets. Want to save your settings quickly? Just double-tap on the store button and there they’ll be whenever you need them.
Nord’s unique string resonance feature and weighted hammer action on the full 88-key scale make the Piano a real pleasure to play. The included Nord Triple Pedal features all three pedals found on a grand piano – Sustain, Una Corda, and a Sostenuto pedal, which sustains only the notes that are pressed down when the pedal is operated, whilst notes played after are unaffected.
Appealing equally to the studio and the stage, the Nord Piano is very lightweight, weighing in at just 18kg (39.6lb), yet Nord haven’t compromised on build quality, and certainly haven’t on features.
