TORAIZ AS-1 Monophonic Analogue Synthesizer description:

The Pioneer TORAIZ AS-1 Monophonic Analogue Synthesizer consists of two VCOs, two VCFs, two EGs, an LFO and a VCA. The AS-1 is a monophonic analogue synthesizer equipped with intuitive controls including parameter knobs that enable you to make subtle and dramatic changes to your music tone to create a personalised sound. Additionally the touchpad-style keyboard and slider help you manipulate sounds during performances. Driven by a fully programmable, true analogue synthesis engine based on the discrete analogue circuitry in Dave Smith Instruments’ Prophet-6 synthesizer, the AS-1 even has seven of its on-board effects and a brand new digital distortion.

The AS-1 has two voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) with continuously-variable triangle, sawtooth, and pulse wave shapes. You are able to mould your sound with two voltage-controlled filters (VCF)s, a four-pole, resonant low-pass filter, and a two-pole, resonant high-pass filter. Containing 495 preset programmes each with a different sound, the AS-1 has a 64-step sequence that can be edited separately and you can save up to 495 of your own programmes in the five user banks.

The main features of the Pioneer TORAIZ AS-1 Monophonic Analogue Synthesizer include:

  • 2x VCOs, 2x VCFs, 1x VCS, 2x EGs, 1x LFO

this unit has really usable killer sounds and patterns , its tweakable and easy to use , midi thru is handy too,

I don't want to be the glowing review guy so i wont tell you how awesome it is and it IS ...

there are a couple of things i find a pain like there is a minimal audio gap between switching patterns on the quick pattern function assigned to the keys ,

The keys are very sensitive so if you brush them you accidentally modulate the pattern to another key..... I wish it had a cue function so you could cue a pattern change as you can loose the sync a bit if your not careful when its as slave

There is a bit of menu diving and shift key alternating to edit the sounds ect but also there is a free software that is very very good.

its a shame you cant record in real time on its internal sequencer or record moments of the knobs , also the arpeggio is great but you also cant record that internally , all the knobs send midi so in a daw its easy.

one last annoying thing is when you press play on your master unite while asi is a slave it immediately starts the patter , this cant be changed so you have to work round it..... The korg mini and monologues are the same - either make a blank pattern to start or turn the vol down...
