The Edirol UA-4FX is a low-cost USB audio & MIDI interface that will be of interest to guitarists looking to take their first steps into the world of digital recording.
The UA-4FX is equipped with input options for most recording tasks: there is an XLR input with phantom power, a 1/4-inch switchable guitar/mic input, an 1/8-inch mic input, a pair of phono line-level inputs, plus an S/PDIF digital input. To begin with we switched to the Perform row, which includes a pitchshift effect referred to as FX Voice, plus Amp/Drive, chorus and delay. With only a little of the Amp/Drive switched in we were able to capture a reasonable guitar sound, which had a warm, Marshall solid-state quality.”
