Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang News: Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain is synonymous with several models of Fender guitar, but perhaps none more so than the sleek, off-set charm of the Fender Mustang. To that end, Fender has seen fit to create three new Fender Kurt Cobain Mustangs (six if you count the left-handed versions).

Why Cobain Chose Fender Mustang

Cobain gravitated to the Mustang originally, like a great many others in the grunge scene, because that model, the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar had all been cheap to purchase at the time. Leo Fender’s dream for these models to replace the Strat and Tele had obviously not been taking, which brought their prices down and affordable to the likes of the Nirvana front-man.

Fitted with a direct-mounted Seymour Duncan JB Humbucker for gritty, punchy tone, the guitars have been designed to live up to the exact year and model that Kurt used to play – expect a USA-built alder body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard – and are available in the now-iconic finishes, too – Sonic Blue, Fiesta Red and Lake Placid Blue, the latter also adorned with the famous ‘competition stripe’.

Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang launched January 2012

While no-one will ever have the unique charisma, talent and guts of Kurt Cobain, you’ll be able to confidently recreate his sound with this piece of history that’s been a long time in the making. The Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang is a must for the avid fan and collector.
