Fender Super Champ X2 NAMM 2012 news: Fender today announced the new Super Champ X2 amplifier series – comprising a 1X10 combo valve amplifier and a 1x12 head/cabinet pairing – designed to provide valve power, amp modelling and digital FX at a super portable, affordable level.
The Super Champ X2 combo is a dualchannel, 15-Watt model packing two 6V6 tubes for raw power, the voicing of which is then tweaked by selecting different amp models – the 16 options include familiar sounds including ‘Blackface’, ‘Tweed’, ‘Metal’ and ‘British’. Once you’ve picked out the tone that’s most suited to you, 15 different digital effects can be added for good measure, including modulation, reverb and tone-tappable delays.
While you’ll likely make most use of the 10” speaker inside the Super Champ X2 Combo, there’s also a USB option for speaker simulation that heads straight for you DAW, and a ¼” line-out for carrying a signal to other hardware. As you might expect, Fender’s FUSE software is put to good use, allowing you to further edit the models and effects to store onboard your combo amp as necessary.

Then there’s the Fender Super Champ X2 head and accompanying SC112 speaker cab enclosure for those of you more comfortable with a half-stack but still keen on a more portable rig than most. With a 12” Celestion G12P-80 speaker, capable of pushing out 80 Watts RMS at 8 Ohms, the cab makes the perfect partner, allowing you volume and headroom without taking up too much space in your car.
The Mexican-built Fender Super Champ X2 amps pack a lot of punch for a modest price, and we can see these fast becoming a favourite for those intermediate players looking to step up their game at gigs and broaden their horizons in the studio.
