Gibson and Marshall’s 50th Birthday Goldtop

Published: Tuesday 18 September 2012

Gibson releases 50th Anniversary Of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop Electric Guitar: Gibson Les Paul and Marshall Amplification have simultaneously released the astonishingly beautiful Gibson 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop – based on the ’57 reissue model that many collectors have long coveted – and the equally impressive Marshall Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Bluesbreaker. While we’ll deal with the amp in a separate story, the guitar is an impressive enough piece of history in its own right!

The Les Paul marries a one-piece mahogany body with a two-piece carved maple top, which is of course finished in hand-sprayed nitro-cellulose, and comes hand aged so you’ll see the wonderful crackle present right from the off. Gibson master craftsman Tom Murphy has seen to this personally, so you’ll find nothing but absolutely flawless work.

There’s cream binding accurate to the year, and in fact the craftsmanship in general adheres to the ’57 model – Tune-o-matic, aluminium tailpiece, Kluson tuners – but the pickguard of the same cream colour sports a special commemorative stamp, while Jim Marshall’s signature adorns the truss rod cover. A Marshall script-font logo is also present on the 12th fret position.

Pick up wise, two Burstbuckers with Alnico II magnets have been designed to emulate the PAF’s of the 50s, gifting the 50th Anniversary Of Marshall Les Paul a ‘throaty warmth and crunchy sting’. The Marshall vibe reappears on even the case, as the brown hardshell enclosure has a Marshall silkscreen print on top, and a leather bound Marshall/Gibson authenticity certificate is included also.

We adore the vintage charms of this retro model, and urge collectors to investigate the Gibson 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop straight away, before time runs out!
