OctoPre MkII Dynamic News: The Focusrite OctoPre Mk2 Dynamic features eight channels of Focusrite's legendary mic pre-amplification, with new VCA-based compressors on every channel, based on the character of the celebrated Focusrite Red 3.
The new compressor design accurately matches the shape of the original Red 3's knee to capture the fundamental characteristics of the studio classic. You can use the compressor to provide a clean, controlled sound or, using the 'more' switch, you can transform the behavior of the VCA, doubling the ratio to deliver an invigorated effect compressor. The 'compress' knob does the rest, maintaining a high output level as the amount of compression is increased, while making the compressor as simple as possible to use, so you can keep your eyes on the meters and the performers. If you want a more compressed sound, just turn up the dial!
The preamps themselves are the same as those found in the Saffire PRO range of high-quality audio interfaces. As expected from all Focusrite preamps, they have an especially fast transient response and tolerance for high SPLs, as well as an unsurpassed, transparent sound. These Focusrite signature qualities equip you with exceptional versatility whatever you're recording, be it an acoustic drum kit, a backing vocalist or a string ensemble. What's more, channels 1+2 feature high-quality DI circuitry, removing the need for separate, standalone DI equipment when connecting guitars, basses and electric pianos to your system.
On-board digital converters, with state-of-the-art clocking and jitter-elimination technology, enable you to stream eight channels of 24-bit/96kHz digital audio to and from an ADAT-equipped audio interface or hard disk recorder, making it the perfect addition to your project studio setup or live recording rig, including those running Pro Tools M-Powered, LE and HD.
The A-D and D-A converters can operate at common sample rates of up to 96kHz, with dual TOSlink ports carrying the SMUX-compliant ADAT signal to and from your audio interface, mixing console or hard disk recorder. When running at 44.1kHz or 48kHz, the twin outputs are mirrored, so you can feed two ADAT-equipped devices — a computer audio interface and a backup recorder, for example — with the same signal.
The OctoPre MkII Dynamic's 1U front panel layout places all the controls within your grasp. Overload and compressor-active LEDs, plus five-step meters for every channel, give you a clear visual representation of signals, to help you better manage gain stages, optimize headroom, and prevent unwanted digital clipping.
The OctoPre MkII Dynamic features the best internal clock generator in its class, with a jitter performance of +/- 20PPM. Its on-board BNC Word Clock input and output can supply a master-clock-grade sync signal to other digital devices in your system, or it can connect to an external clock generator, where its built-in JetPLL jitter-attenuation circuitry ensures the highest audio quality is maintained.
In short, the OctoPre MkII Dynamic is the best-equipped, most comprehensive eight-channel mic pre on the market. It is the only device in its class with on-board dynamics-processors on every channel. All this combined with dual ADAT i/o makes it the most capable device for increasing the I/O count of a DAW system.
Eight signature Focusrite mic preamps. Eight Red 3-derived compressors. World-class digital I/O: All in one box and within the project studio budget.
