ISO-L8R155 Sound Isolating Speaker Stands description:

The IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R155 Pair of sound isolating speaker stands are fully adjustable speaker stands designed to reduce sympathetic vibrations thus increasing monitoring accuracy.

The ISO-L8R155 speaker stands provide superior acoustic isolation and enhance the sound clarity of any speakers including studio monitors, home theatre systems and sound reinforcement.

An important aspect of the speaker stand design is the ability to adjust the height and tilt angle of the supported speaker enclosure to optimize its position relative to the listener.

Two lengths of tubing along with 2 sets of end-plug pairs provide 14 steps of height adjustment as the combinations are used to tilt the speaker up and down. The stand can be assembled and reconfigured repeatedly to establish the ideal position off the supporting surface and focused towards the listener.

The tube lengths and end-caps combinations provide a simple means to establish optimal adjustment of large and small monitors over the typical 36 to 48 inch listening distance for mixing and evaluation.

The ISO-L8R155s speaker stands prevent the transfer of speaker cabinet energy to surrounding surfaces, effectively isolating the speaker from the desktop, bookshelf or other surface. By allowing the speaker to perform in free space, it's able to sound the way it was intended. The end result is a more accurate, satisfying sound, which makes mixing and listening a better experience.

IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R155 main features include:

  • Pair of sound isolating speaker stands
  • Base size 6.1 x 7.5 in, fits most monitor speakers
  • 14 steps of height adjustment
  • Recommended for studio monitors, home theatre systems and sound reinforcement
  • Adjustable tilt angle

Nothing in the description (manufacturer or DV) prepares you for the discovery that these stands are made of very light plastic! Having paid about £100 to receive them, their cheap finish and construction is a major shock. The material mentioned on Isoacoustic's website/youtube vids etc. is aluminium. This is what the photos make it look like and what I expected to receive.
I also expect a speaker stand to be solid. Don't you?
These wobble. Push them one way and they wobble back to the centre. You can twist the stands and push them from side-to-side with ease! I expected them to sound AWFUL.
BUT! The sound is generally clear and well-separated. It certainly cleans up imaging and mid/treble. Other reviews I have seen say the bass is less muddy but I think that is because of the stand's compliance; the cone pushes one way and the stand moves in the other - defeating much of the energy in the bass cone! Because of the stand's lack of solidity this is an obvious and predictable effect.
I am in two minds The mids/uppers and stereo image are fabulous but the low end has lost so much of what was put in in the original mix and will probably lead to EQ to counter its light bottom end.
Not sure that I am prepared to sacrifice one end for the improvement at the other.

Very happy with these stands using them on my Genelec 8030 speakers on a desktop.

Easy to assemble and with two lengths of tube flexible for most situations.

I Have been uesing foam pads for about a year. Was not sure the ISO stands would make any improvements but it has tightened all the low end and the mids and high have more clrispness. I would say get them you will love and hear the difference

Very simple but very effective assembly with GREAT results. I haven't experienced such a good stereo image with a lot of other expensive gear!

They do the job, which is why I got them. But they're very expensive for what they are. I thought the heights would be a bit more customisable. Adjustments to height are done by using the longer or shorter poles with two different mini extensions to insert the ends of the poles. No complaints about how well they do their job, but value for money isn't great, If you're innovative enough, you should be able to put something together yourself.
