BX8 D2 Active Studio Monitors (Pair) description:

The M-Audio BX8 D2 Studio Monitors are affordable and professional monitors from the BX range. With exceptional transparency and sonic definition the BX8 D2 monitors are made for recording, mixing, and mastering. The BX8 D2 speakers cater for all listening environments from professional studios to home project studios.

Praised and used by countless studio professionals, the BX8 D2 Monitors from Avid M-Audio produce and mix music at a quality you hear everyday. What you hear from the BX8 D2 is what you will hear on your MP3 player, car stereo and on live stage. This is due to the improved technologies Avid M-Audio have inherited.

The high-frequency driver on the BX8D2 is a silk-dome and is waveguide-loaded. It is fully isolated fully isolated from the rest of the enclosure. This ensures minimum distortion and an ultra-smooth frequency response up to 22 kHz. To match the high-frequency driver is the 8” low-frequency driver made purely from woven Kevlar. The superior qualities of Kevlar make it thermal resilient, perfect for hard hitting music and long studio sessions. The curved conical design of the BX8 D2 improves room dispersion. Another unique feature are the high-temperature voice coils, which reduce power compression for greater studio performance.

Customer Reviews

Expertise/Experience: Audio professional

Pros: +
Great nearfields for the price. Would recommend for any amateur mixer or producer, or even reference monitors for professionals.

Cons: -
Bass is a little smeared due to port holes, nothing too intrusive, however if you think about your monitors positions and any necessary insulation/dampening

Pros: +
Tight low bass, nothing this low for the money

Cons: -
power cables are too short

Very impressed with these. Sound is fantastic. Great bass response, even if a little muddied. Good placement should sort this out. Highly recommended.

The build quality immediately impresses as soon as they are out of the box. I plugged them straight in and had a quick blast of a track I was working on. Superb bass and a high level of detail in the upper frequencies. I then left them running for several hours, Jah Wobble and Bill Laswell's Radioaxiom, while I was at my pottery studio. The sound had subtly but definitely improved - a more cohesive and less sharp sound.

Exactly the right size and sound for my home studio. They cruise quite happily at 'nearly loud enough to be unbearable' with no distortion or fatigue.

I actually bought these from a review of the new Carbon version. Didn't need the switch for placing near a wall, these are three feet away, and a silver plastic front always, to me, looks like a silver plastic front. Also as these are now end of line they were a very, very good price.

I bought them as replacements for Alesis M1 Active Mk II's which lost a tweeter due to escape of smoke. These are, even at full RRP, similarly priced and, in my opinion, a much better sounding product.

Love 'em - highly recommended.
