Audio Damage ADM17 Proton is a digital DSP Eurorack Delay module optimized for Karplus-Strong effects. This classical form of synthesis is suitable for producing sounds reminiscent of plucked or struck strings.
The heart of the unit is a delay unit whose time constant can be set precisely over a wide range using the coarse and fine adjustment knob. Furthermore, there is a CV input for time control, which doubles the delay time when the control voltage is increased by 1 Volt, which corresponds to a characteristic of 1V/octave. All parameters can be controlled via CV inputs.
The delay then passes through a low-pass filter in the feedback path, which is oriented on the Korg MS-20, in order to enable flexible attenuation simulation. The "Choke" input is used to set the decay value to zero briefly by means of an external trigger.
To excite the delay to oscillation, the proton contains a manually or externally triggerable pulse of noise, which can be changed in timbre and decay time using the "Imp Filter" and "Imp Decay" parameters. The tendentially wiry-metallic sound of the Karplus-Strong synthesis is enriched by a sine wave with the "Sub" knob to add it to the fundamental frequency, which results in an unexpectedly drastic expansion of the sound spectrum.
