With the Darkglass Microtubes 900 Limited Edition Medusa, the Finnish manufacturer presents a very special edition of its successful bass amplifier. An artwork by the British artist Christopher Lovell adorns the top of the deep black cabinet, while under the hood the proven technology provides brute bass sounds. Accordingly, the compact amplifier has a particularly variable preamplifier, which, in addition to the clean section with 4-band tone control, has a switchable Microtubes Engine with the voicing of the Darkglass B3K and Vintage pedals. The 900 watt Class D power amplifier also promises full power at an extremely low weight, while the intelligent footswitch facilitates operation of the amplifier in live use.
The heart of the Darkglass Microtubes 900 bass amplifier is the highly variable preamp, which consists of the Clean Section and the Microtubes Engine. The Clean Channel convinces with its particularly transparent reproduction, which does not falsify the character of the bass used. At the same time, the active 4-band tone control, whose mid-bands each have center frequencies that can be switched three times, enables a particularly precise adjustment of the sound character.
The Clean section is preceded by the Microtubes Eninge, whose voicing can be switched between that of the Darkglass Microtubes B3K and Darkglass Microtubes Vintage . Accordingly, after activation, a wide range of outstanding overdrive sounds is available, ranging from the softly breaking crunch to the mid Vintage drive to the brute distortion wrecking ball for modern metal. The clean signal can be continuously mixed in to maintain the definition and pressure in the bass range, especially with the latter.
The Darkglass Microtubes 900 Medusa Head is equipped with a powerful power plant in the form of a Class D power amplifier for performance reserves suitable for the stage. Despite the compact dimensions and the weight of just 2.9 kg, the 900 watt top delivers sufficient volume reserves for a powerful, mark-shake bass sound that pushes every note played into the pit of the stomach and makes the earth tremble. The Bass Head is equipped with a combination socket, which also accepts jack plugs if required, so that the enormous power reaches the bass speaker safely. The balanced XLR output with switchable tap point also makes it easy to pick up the bass amplifier on stage or in the studio.
The Intelligent Footswitch, which communicates with the amplifier via a microcontroller, is also included for easy operation of the Darkglass Microtubes 900 in live applications. A short step on the switch activates the Microtubes Engine, while pressing and holding for three seconds sets the amplifier to mute mode.
