The Electro Harmonix HOG 2 Multi Effects Pedal is an Octave and Harmonic Generator/Guitar Synthesizer that can simultaneously generate multiple octaves and harmonics from your input signal. Whether you play single notes, arpeggios or full chords, the HOG 2 will track every note you play. Built-in to the HOG 2 are 7 Expression Modes that enable you to modify your sounds using a standard Expression Pedal, a MIDI Controller, or the Expression Button on the HOG 2 itself. Further sound sculpting is achieved through an Amplitude Envelope Generator and a 2nd-Order Low Pass Resonant Filter.
The main features of the Electro Harmonix HOG 2 Multi Effects Pedal include:
Yes it's not cheap, but this is easily the most versatile pedal I own. The sound is wonderful and you get so many different functions, all of which perform admirably.
I use it for ambient soundscapes mostly. With the freeze options, you can get really huge sounds. The higher octaves can be quite sharp (obviously), but the Frequency control smoothens this out nicely. The pedal is very easy to operate and has a sturdy build.
My only dislike is the included expression pedal. The design is quite impractical, because it always goes to the toe-down position when you take your foot off it. Since toe-down is always the strongest setting of the expression pedal, it's not useful and I think EHX included the wrong type of pedal for the HOG2. I ended up using the expression pedal in reverse mode all the time but I will probably replace it.
To summarise though, effectively you get a POG2, a Superego, a wah and a volume pedal, so it's much cheaper than buying them separately. I'm very happy with my purchase!
