The Friedman Runt 20 puts the typical Friedman sound into a compact top that is an ideal sound supplier for rehearsal rooms, stages and recording studios. Accordingly, the top's EL84-based power amp delivers up to 20 watts of power, while the clean and overdrive channels cover a wide range of sounds from country, blues, hard rock and classic metal. In addition to the serial effects loop, the Friedman Runt 20 also features an integrated load resistor for silent operation without a connected speaker, and a balanced XLR output with speaker simulation.
Based on three 12AX7 tubes, the Friedman Runt 20's preamplifier offers two channels for extensive sound possibilities. The clean channel, with its straightforward design, volume control and three-stage bright switch, offers a rich, appealing sound for sparkling arpeggios and detailed chords. The overdrive channel features a 3-band tone control as well as a switchable boost and therefore covers a wide gain spectrum between bluesy crunch, creamy overdrive and tight metal distortion. In addition, the Friedman Runt 20 has a presence control for adjusting the treble in the power amplifier and a serial effect path.
For the power amplifier of the Friedman Runt 20, Dave Friedman relies on two EL84 tubes from which the compact top section draws up to 20 watts of power. Accordingly, sufficient volume reserves are available for use in the rehearsal room or on smaller gigs. In addition to the loudspeaker connections for guitar speakers with 8 Ohm or 16 Ohm impedance, the Friedman Runt 20 also has an integrated load resistor that enables silent operation without a connected loudspeaker. The balanced XLR output delivers a first-class signal with loudspeaker simulation for direct feeding into the mixing console or audio interface.
