With the Gibson 1960 Hummingbird HCS Adjustable Saddles, the traditional U.S. manufacturer presents a faithful replica of the Hummingbird first produced in the 1960s, which, in addition to the characteristic hummingbird pickguard, is equipped with the same materials that were used at the time. The instrument owes its powerful sound to its fully solid construction, which is quickly and perfectly developed by a thermo treatment of the top wood and a very thin hand-rubbed finish, giving the impression that it is actually a relic from days gone by. The scope of delivery includes a sturdy case, a certificate of authenticity and a Gibson Accessory Kit.
In order to produce a bright and midrange-rich sound, the manufacturer uses a fine-grained Sitka spruce for the construction of the top wood, which is first subjected to a thermo treatment so that the sound is produced quickly and long-lasting, just like an instrument that has already been played for decades. This effect is further enhanced by a flat scalloped X-bracing that allows the top wood to vibrate freely. A gauzy nitro varnish with an eye-catching Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish also does its part. Bordered with a cream-colored multi-ply binding, the color gradient of the top blends smoothly into the Finish of the back and sides, perfectly matching the rest of the instrument's components. The centerpiece of this cult model from the Gibson acoustic guitar family is the generous pickguard, which is adorned with a hummingbird and elaborate floral ornaments.
Perfectly matched to the top wood, the manufacturer uses a high-quality mahogany wood for the back and sides, which not only lends a warm note to the overall tone, but also enriches the bass and midrange frequencies with a fundamental saturation that makes the instrument perfect for vocal accompaniment and rhythm strumming. The back is also given the opportunity to vibrate more freely due to the thin finish, producing a quick response even with light touches. The back and sides are also bordered with a multi-layer binding, which provides a tasteful contrast to the reddish coloring of the fine-grained wood. The even grain of the material also shows that the manufacturer uses only the finest woods for his high-quality custom shop instruments to create a perfect sound experience for which his guitars are famous all over the world.
In order to guarantee an obliging fingering, the manufacturer relies on a mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard for the 1960 Hummingbird. In combination with a nut width of 43.81 mm and a shortened scale length of 628.65 mm, the neck is easy to play and allows you to reach the highest of the frets decorated with Mother-of-Pearl parallelogram inlays. Clean intonation is ensured by a bone nut and corresponding bridge inlay, which is set into an attached bridge made of rosewood and whose precise workmanship illustrates the craftsmanship of the Gibson custom shop. Gold Gotoh keystone tuners are mounted to the characteristic headstock, offering easy tuning of the 6 steel strings and add a premium touch to the overall appearance. The guitar comes with a sturdy wooden case with yellow interior, a certificate of authenticity with model number and a Gibson accessory kit.
