The Gibson Byrdland Venetian Electric Guitar Vintage Sunburst is a 6-string electric guitar, with a hollowbody, a spruce top, a maple back, sides and neck, an ebony fretboard, and a vintage sunburst finish. The 'Custom Crimson' Gibson series includes particularly rare instruments. There is a one-off production for each instrument. The Gibson "Byrdland" owes its name to the two studio guitarists Billy Byrd and Hank Garland, who are responsible for the special features of this guitar. Despite a thinline design the Byrdland has no solid center block, but is completely hollow.
Otherwise, the construction is based on an L-5, that is, there are only massive timbers used for the body, floor (spruce) and ceiling (flamed maple), which are hand-carved. The neck is made from maple, locked with two strips of walnut and has an ebony fingerboard. The body has the round, so-called "Venetian" cutaway of the first Byrdland models. In addition to the unique construction of a thinline hollow body with solid timber, the Byrdland has yet another special feature. In order to play fast runs and held chords in the studio convenient to Billy Byrd and Hank Garland, they wanted an extra short scale (23.5").
