Modified Flying V design

Deviating from the classic design of the Gibson Flying V, the Dave Mustaine Flying V EXP initially relies on the extended scale length of 25.5 inches or 648 mm to give the Mustaine V a particularly taut response. In addition, the classic 3+3 headstock was replaced with the iconic field hockey stick headstock used on Gibson designs of the 1980s. On the other hand, the ebony fingerboard with ascending compound radius and 24 fretsin medium jumbo format ensures superior playability in all registers.

Seymour Duncan Thrash Factor Set

For tone transformation, the Gibson Dave Mustaine Flying V EXP uses a Seymour Duncan Thrash Factor humbucker set wound in the United States and designed specifically to Dave's tonal requirements. The Set is based on the SH-4 JB and SH-1n '59 humbuckers as used on the recordings for the breakthrough album Rust in Peace, and features additional low-end and more aggressive trebles in the bridge position. Both pickups are controlled by the Custom Dave Mustaine Wiring, which provides two separate volume controls for both pickups and an additional Master Tone.

Stage-ready hardware outfit

The fact that the Gibson Dave Mustaine Flying V EXP prefers to be played on stage is proven by its professional hardware equipment. In addition to the classic combination of tune-o-matic and stopbar for the most resonant transmission possible in the mahogany body, Jim Dunlop Straplocks provide a bombproof hold on the guitar strap. At the headstock, six Grover Mini Rotomatics with Kidney wings guarantee absolute tuning stability and smooth tuning processes.
