The Neumann TLM 102 is a multi-award-winning universal talent among studio microphones, and cuts an excellent figure, particularly with respect to the human voice. Not only in view of its price, it sets standards for what a modern condenser microphone must be able to do, and impresses with a particularly natural, unadulterated sound reproduction. A subtle boost from 10 kHz provides the user with a very premium-sounding treble range. Thanks to its transformerless circuitry, the TLM 102 has a very tight and wide bass range.
With its wide dynamic range of up to 144dB SPL and its very low equivalent noise level, it can be used universally in audio production and delivers absolutely flawless results with any source. Of course, it is particularly well suited for recording speech and vocals: The elastically mounted capsule achieves very good decoupling of structure-borne noise of all kinds, even without a shock mount, and its built-in pop protection filters out plosive sounds when spoken over.
The TLM 102 can be used at studio wherever the qualities of a large-diaphragm condenser microphone are generally required: Speech and vocals, piano and grand piano, snare (bottom), guitar amps (highly recommended!), etc. Due to the wide bass range and high level stability, it is also suitable for bass amps and low volume percussion.
