Renowned for professional loudspeakers and sound systems, Italian manufacturer RCF presents the NX 985-A, a 3-way active speaker designed from the ground up to deliver outstanding audio quality for bands, DJs, clubs and rental companies. The industry-leading combination of RCF premium transducers and a 2-channel, 2100-watt power amplifier ensures a consistent 100° x 60° coverage angle and a distortion-free sound pressure level of up to 138 dB. The 3-way design consists of a 1.75-inch neodymium compression driver with constant-directivity waveguide, an 8-inch cone midrange driver with phase-coherent waveguide, and a 15-inch high-power woofer.
Whether stand-alone, flown or combined with RCF's SUB 8008- AS subwoofer, NX 985-A guarantees high sound pressure levels in all frequency ranges with tremendous fidelity and reliability. The sturdy, tour-ready cabinet made of high-quality multiplex is easy to transport and can be installed securely thanks to the integrated mounting points.
The NX 985-A features the most powerful power amplifier in its class. Transducers and power amplifiers are constantly being optimized by RCF. With 2100 watts of power, the 2-channel Class D power amplifier of the NX-9 series and is up to 50 percent more powerful than its predecessors, achieving impressive sound pressure levels with ultra-fast attack and natural transient response with low heat loss. It is energy efficient in that it does not require a ventilation fan. Instead, the power amplifier is mounted in the rear of the enclosure to a fixed heat exchanger with no moving parts.
The signal input path has been optimized for low distortion and, for added safety, features an advanced limiter that preserves the sound characteristics of the input signal at all levels. All NX 9 power amplifiers are standardized for maximum safety (EN62368-1) and are powered by a highly efficient yet ultra-lightweight switching power supply.
RCF's lightweight drivers offer impressive performance. To ensure maximum reliability and optimum interaction of all components, all transducers were designed by RCF engineers in Italy.
The 1.75-inch compression driver with neodymium magnet offers more transparency and improved current handling at lower weight. The titanium dome tweeter with polyimide Capton voice coil is extremely stable and low distortion. The 8-inch high-power cone midrange driver with constant-directivity waveguide provides rich detail and vocal transparency in the midrange frequency band.
With its new advanced transducer design, the 15-inch high-power woofer provides greater stability, lower distortion, fast transient response, and better heat dissipation even at high currents.
To achieve extended bass response and more power, RCF's experienced design team replaced the standard high-pass filter with a cutting-edge technology. The BMC (Bass Motion Control) is an innovative feature to control the woofer excursion. The speaker with BMC handles even the lowest audible frequencies without compromising woofer stability for a linear, extended bass range and balanced sound.
BMC is an algorithm that comprehensively analyzes the dynamic behavior of the woofer and uses this specific data to limit only excessive excursions. This allows complete freedom in signal reproduction through the transducer. Conventional high-pass filters are designed to prevent damage to the woofer, but at the same time they also influence the phase behavior. Thanks to the new BMC algorithm, this problem is now history.
RCF's loudspeakers are designed based on proprietary, advanced FIR filter technology that ensures transparent sound, absolute clarity and a perfect stereo image. The special FiRPHASE filters enable even sound distribution for all listeners without phase distortion with minimal latency in the overall system.
The RCF NX 985-A is a large-format FOH system for demanding applications. Its flexibility makes it the perfect choice for a wide range of live sound applications. The robust enclosure, made entirely of high-quality multiplex, is easily transportable and equipped with ergonomic handles on both sides. The boxes can be coupled to extend coverage and alternatively mounted flying or on a truss using the six integrated M10 mounting points.
With its sturdy enclosure, textured finish and robust front grille, the NX 985-A is suitable for both fixed installations and intensive touring use.
