"The V7 in one Word...Perfectamundo!" - Billy F. Gibbons
The V7 BFG is the signature vocal microphone made for the legendary Billy F. Gibbons. Known as guitarist and lead singer of the legendary American rock band ZZ Top, Billy Gibbons is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He is member of the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, since decades "on the road" and still musically hyperactive with acts like The Kings of Chaos, the BFG's and - last but not least - ZZ Top!
Innovative aluminium plunger coil
The innovative DMC7 capsule was specially developed for vocals and speech. Thanks to the innovative and unique aluminium plunger coil, the V7 offers a very fresh, open sound. It allows a lifelike pickup of your voice and the balanced sound also facilitates the work of the sound engineer. The super-cardioid polar pattern and the sophisticated acoustic design of the capsule help your voice to prevail over other instruments on stage and provide very high feedback resistance.
Patented, integrated holder
The new, patented suspension effectively decouples the capsule from the housing and thus effectively reduces grip noise, footstep noise and rumble noise. Thus your voice is always in the foreground even on noisy stage shows.
Custom chrome finish
The high-gloss chrome-plated surface of the V7 gives the microphone a unique appearance that immediately catches the eye on stage or in the studio.
Robust metal housing and roll-away protection
The housing of the V7 BFG consists exclusively of solid metal parts - no sensitive plastic parts are used. The handle is made of proven zinc die-cast aluminium parts, which withstands even the highest loads. The durable microphone basket is made of high-quality spring steel and is insensitive to deformation and corrosion. The bevelled edges along the microphone basket prevent the microphone from rolling away on flat surfaces such as the stage floor or guitar amp.
Internal draft shield
The internal draft shield efficiently reduces unwanted wind and pop noises (e.g. by consonants or explosive sounds).
Gold-plated XLR contacts
The V7 BFG makes it easier than ever for your sound engineer to achieve an amazingly full, rich sound with minimal effort, so you always sound great!

scope of supply
I joined a new group recently and realised the trusty SM58 I've been using for the last 22 years was somewhere in the depths of my brother's garage not having been used for a few months. Wanting a new mic but not wanting to buy another 58 when I knew the old one would come back to me at some point I did a bit of research and read loads of positive reviews for the SE V7, so I decided to take a punt on this. As the band has a bit of a dirty rock sound I opted to spend an extra 25% on this bling version, still very reasonably priced here at less than a hundred quid.
Very solidly made, well balanced in the hand and as my band mates commented, very shiny. I've given it 4 stars in this section as for me it's just a touch on the large side, but that's probably because I'm so used to the feel of a 58. As others have commented, the dodecagonal bezel does help stop it rolling about on the desk but visually certainly doesn't add anything. Obviously I'm not in a position to comment on the durability as yet, but I'd be very surprised if this thing doesn't outlast me and I'm hoping I've got at least another twenty years in me yet.
Most importantly then, the sound. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to try it out with the full band as yet due to the Coronavirus lockdown, but I've put it through some paces in the home studio and I'm really impressed. Lovely rich low end with excellent top end clarity. I've not done exhaustive comparisons but it held up very favourably against both an AKG D65S and an SM57. Excellent signal strength. The only thing I found slightly disappointing is that I didn't notice much of a reduction in handling noise, which I had been expecting from the manufacturers description. That said any reduction at all is going to be a positive in most people's book and I think the difference is just enough to be worth an honourable mention. All in all it's a great product and given that if you shop around you can be the owner of a non-bling version for less than seventy of your English pounds, this is a bit of a no-brainer. With the BFG version I thought the included guitar picks were also a nice touch. Get one in your kit bag today.
