The TC Electronic Flashback X4 is a versatile delay and looper pedal featuring TC's TonePrint technology.
The TC Electronic Flashback X4 Delay Pedal is a more expansive version of TC's compact Flashback model, and offers 16 delay types, ranging from Tape and Tube echo to Analog and Reverse delay. There are four slots for importing signature TonePrint presets, as provided by legendary TC Electronic users, such as Steve Morse and Doug Aldrich.
The Flashback X4 has four foot switches, three of which can be used to switch between presets and one is for tap-tempo. With no complicated menus, the Flashback X4's controls are all switches and knobs. There are controls for Delay Time, Feedback, Delay Level and Looper Level. There is a switch for engaging the 40-second looper, changing the footswitches to operate as Record, Play/Pause, Play Once and Undo controls.
On the rear of the unit, there are options for connecting MIDI, USB and an expression pedal, as well as stereo inputs and outputs.

The main features of the TC Electronic Flashback X4 Delay and Looper Pedal include:
I like Delay effects and I do have a few different pedals but I couldnt resist to get this one. It really sounds good, it has the unique toneprint technology which alows to expand the features of the pedal to your own liking which compensates for the inability to customize some attributes like the delays with mods. But theres tons of toneprints for free beamable to the pedal using a smartphone or PC, which is amazing! Compared to some of competitors it has some of the same great features but also adds the MIDI capabilities which allow among other things, to control it on a MIDI switching setup. And the price is very well suited. Its on my pedalboard to stay!
This is my very first delay pedal, the only delay I had before was my roland cube 30x built-in delay wich was fine but it only had one knob...
I didnt really need a delay super hard but Im building myself a pedalboard, and I found that almost everyone has some type of delay on his/her board, so Id love to have a good delay aswell.
I mainly use delay for subtle stuff or some beautifull single note lead guitar, and this pedal is perfect for it.
It has many delay types, however they just change the tone of your delayed signal, its noticable but it doesnt really make such a big difference. I have it mostly set on tape.
You can store your favourite delay presets, which is great, I really love that feature.
It has the regular delay time/feedback/delay level knobs, and they respond very well and are easy to handle. You get a little switch for single notes, or dotted notes, which is great for experimenting, but I dont really use it.
The feature that I needed the most and made me buy the pedal was the looper...
With a simple switch you go to the looper mode. The footbuttons are very responsive, and every loop is very accurate. So yeah the looper is great. and you can still use the delay while your looping.
You also get a midi input and output and it offers stereo delay aswell, but then youll need two amps...
Theres also a feature called toneprint
It gives you 4 more delay types which you can choose from the tc electronic site, I didnt manage to use it yet... I dont really need it either but its a unique feature...
So yeah, great pedal! better than the Line six DL4.
And well priced!
Cheers
Very natural sounding delays, very vintage or more modern modes. Tap tempo is included, which I think is a must for any delay pedal (Ive never understood why some other pedals dont have one). Its a bit bulky and will take some space on your pedal board but Its definitely worth it. Very sturdy construction, strong metallic housing. Perfect for many uses.
