The richness of the solid-wood acoustic experience begins with Taylor's 300 Series. Sapele shares mahogany’s lively tonal response and, together with a gloss-finish Sitka spruce top, rings out with a brightness and clarity that give these guitars a definitive Taylor voice. Black binding flanks sapele’s ribbon-like grain, with large pearl fretboard dots adding a traditional touch.

I searched all over for a nylon cross-over, and am very, very happy with the Taylor 314.
Before deciding I tried several lower priced cross-overs from a number of brands: Alhambra, Cordoba etc., but no model had the combination of acoustic tone, playability and plugged in sound that I was looking for.
I ended up auditioning a number of higher-priced models, but in the end the choice was between this Taylor and the Takamine TC135sc. The Takamine seemed over built and the sound was decidedly 2d in comparison to the Taylors deep and balanced voice. This was true also of the plugged in tone, although here the Takamine was closer (probably thanks to the highly regarded CoolTube preamp). Playability was more or less the same on both guitars, but with the taylor being less "stiff" than the Takamine, it was definitely more fun and lively to play.
There are other nylon acoustics with more traditional specs that can probably match this Taylor at a lower price. But if you are coming from a steel-string background and want a high quality, all-solid guitar that gives you rich acoustic sound and a joyous playing experience, its hard to beat the Taylor.
I wound up spending more than I originally planned, but boy am I glad I did. This guitar is stellar.
