With four XLR/TRS combo inputs, a 3.5mm stereo input, and a Zoom capsule input, the Zoom F4 can record up to 6 audio tracks and a complementary stereo mix track - all at resolutions up to 24-bit/192kHz. Inputs 5 and 6 can be used as camera returns for monitor purposes. This allows you to monitor the camera sound at any time. In two-channel recording mode, channels 1 and 2 can be recorded as safety tracks with independent level, limiter, delay, phase and high-pass settings. Recordings can be made simultaneously to 2 SD cards (each with up to 512 GB storage capacity). This allows you to share recordings instantly or make backup copies. The integrated advanced limiters protect against clipping and can be used simultaneously in all 4 channels even at full resolution.
The F4 is equipped with a ten-pin zoom microphone capsule input, which can be used to further expand the recording capacity. By connecting the optional EXH-6 XLR/TRS capsule, you can add two more mic/line inputs to the F4, bringing the total to six independent XLR/TRS combo inputs. In addition, the F4 offers the possibility to add another microphone to the built-in microphone. The SGH-6 directional microphone capsule or the XYH-6
Each of the four separate XLR/TRS combo inputs are assigned their own gain controls, six-stage LED level meters, record ready and PFL buttons. In addition to the 6.3mm headphone output with its own volume control, the F4 provides four other outputs. The two main balanced XLR outputs can be used to connect the unit to external mixing consoles and studio peripherals for further processing. A simple connection to a camera is possible via two sub outputs (3.5 mm stereo mini jack output). The timecode connections are in BNC format. Firmware updates and file transfers are possible via the USB port. It also allows the F4 to be used as a USB audio interface with six inputs and four outputs at sample rates up to 96 kHz. The monochrome 1.9" LC_Display is backlit and easy to read in all lighting conditions. Thanks to its compact metal housing, the F4 is stable and durable. At the same time, the device weighs only 1.03 kg without batteries.
