MUSIC STORE Cologne

Environmentally Friendly Music Store

In addition to the legal requirements, such as taking back batteries and old electrical appliances, we took further climate-friendly measures many years ago. Since 2010, there has been a solar installation on the roof of the Music Store building with a total area of approx. 3,414 m². A total of 686 PV modules are placed on this surface. In 2021, we were able to generate approximately 161 MWh of electricity with these modules. With the electricity generated so far in 2022, an electric car could travel approx. 30,200 km. This means that approx. 1,843 kg of CO² have been avoided. Furthermore, we have greened various large roof areas of our building.

We take great care to reduce our electricity consumption as much as possible: through intelligent building technology with components such as a central power cut-off system, automatic external blind control, heat recovery, as well as by throttling the power peaks of our logistics. Years ago, we already converted our entire lighting system to modern LED technology.

Behind the Music Store professional in Cologne Kalk, which was built in 2009, we have a green area with approx. 11,000m² and old trees. This area has been untouched for years and we make sure that it stays that way. Here you can find 11 different tree species, which have an average height of approx. 12m. In addition, we make one of our grassy areas available to a local beekeeper for his beehives.

Music Store Verpackungen

Packaging

We only use recyclable packaging material made of eco-paper and cardboard. We use software to calculate the exact packing dimensions before shipping the customer's order. This allows us to select the appropriate shipping box and thus keep the consumption of cardboard as low as possible.

All packaging is licensed with a dual system in accordance with the provisions of the Packaging Act (VerpackG) and can therefore be recycled free of charge via the local collection of recyclable materials (paper bin, yellow bin/yellow sack, etc.). We also do without a paper invoice for almost all parcels sent.

Music Store Batterien

Batteries

Batteries contain chemicals and pollutants. Therefore, every consumer is legally obliged by the Battery Act (BattG) to dispose of used batteries and rechargeable batteries at an authorised collection point and not to dispose of them in household waste.

On batteries and accumulators containing harmful substances, the chemical symbols Cd for cadmium, Hg for mercury and Pb for lead can be found in addition to the symbol of a crossed-out dustbin.

  • Pb= the proportion of lead in these batteries is more than 0.004 percent
  • Cd= the proportion of cadmium in these batteries is more than 0.002 percent
  • Hg= the mercury content of these batteries is more than 0.0005 percent

The crossed-out dustbin means that the batteries must not be disposed of in household waste. You can return used batteries and rechargeable batteries free of charge to us in the shop at the service counter or to other sales points for batteries or to the public waste disposal authorities (örE).

Before handing them in at the collection point, please note to tape the poles of high-capacity batteries (e.g. mobile phone and laptop batteries) beforehand to avoid short circuits.

Electronics

Unfortunately, the collection rate of old appliances in Germany is currently very low at 44.3%. Therefore, in this section we would like to inform you about the possibilities where you can hand in your old appliances and what you have to bear in mind.

The exact legal requirements can be found in the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG for short).

Official figures on the collection rate can be found on the website of the Federal Environment Agency..

Separate collection of waste equipment

WEEE includes all electrical and electronic equipment that has become waste. Owners of WEEE must dispose of it separately from unsorted municipal waste via special collection and return systems. Disposal via household waste is not permitted.

Which devices are taken back?

This includes equipment that is similar in type and function to new equipment purchased from Music Store professional. For example, if you buy a new mixing console from us, you can return your old mixing console that you no longer need. However, very small devices (edge length less than 25cm, for example old smartphones) can also be returned at any time and independently of a new purchase.

This way you can not only get rid of old things, but also do something good for the environment at the same time!
